Cody Anderson - a brief bio
Cody Anderson was born and raised in the small town of Wadestown, WV. It is about a 45-minute drive west of Morgantown. Raised on a farm, he learned what it meant to be a hard worker and the value of an honest day's pay. There wasn't a TV in the Anderson household, so entertainment had to be created. Cody and his family enjoyed many outdoor activities, but the true entertainment came when Cody would sit at his grandmother's Steinway.
Cody was raised in a very conservative Christian home. The only music that he was permitted to listen to was big band, gospel and bluegrass. It wasn't until he moved away from home that he got his first taste of rock'n'roll. Cody has no formal training but has always been able to just feel the music.
Cody began performing at the age of 13. Every Sunday after church he would play dinner music at Murial's restaurant. By the age of 16 he was performing in Atlantic City where he happened to meet and perform for Merv Griffin. He was offered a full time job, but Cody's parents were strongly against the idea. At the age of 21 Cody decided to follow his passion and took up a career in music.
His first job was at Universal Studio's Citywalk at Pat O'Brien's. After 10 months there, he learned the hard way about the temptations of the business and was let go for drinking on property. In search for work, he traveled to Grand Sharks in Wilmington NC. He was there for one year and lost another job when the establishment went bankrupt. Then he set his sights to the sea and boarded the Disney Wonder where he completed his 1 year contract and immediately afterward took up residence in Florida and began working at Howl at the Moon. After September 11 the business slowed and Cody decided it was time to get his degree. In 3 years he received his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Education from Fairmont State College. Afterwards he move to Raleigh, NC and began performing at Rumrunners. He soon outgrew the college crowds and set his sights on the Grove Park Inn. He now resides in Asheville and is currently working at Elaine's Dueling Piano Bar at The Grove Park Inn.
After all of his travels, Cody finally found a place that he can call home. The mountains remind him of WV and the local atmosphere reminds him of a place that is free. It is his wish to continue to do what he loves and make as many people as he can happy along the way.
